Filmocracy is a streaming platform that rewards users for discovering and rating movies, specifically indie films. They are currently in beta testing, with their complete launch scheduled for May 2020. They have partnered with over 50 film festivals and distributors and have over 2000 films on their site available to subscribers. Users can watch for free with advertising or upgrade to remove ads and access additional content and features. The service uses a program that rewards users for exploring films and incentivizes them to discover new content.
“By having user ratings prominently overlaid on a particular film, the friction between choosing and watching is removed,” stated Paul Jun, CEO of Filmocracy. “Our service is going to be bringing a completely different look to streaming that’s inspired by popular mobile games and gives users pleasing micro rewards with every interaction,” Jun further stated.
The service has over 7000 members and is growing organically at about 200 users per day. The content providers include dozens of festivals, distributors, and hundreds of arrangements directly with individual filmmakers. WWMPC’s current arrangement with the service encompasses a revolving annual term with WWMPC films spotlighted periodically and in a highlighted position on the first page for optimal marketing effect. Tentatively the plan is to have the films be available on the platform starting May 5, 2020.
“We’re very pleased to be developing new and diverse relationships with a variety of exciting and innovative platforms like Filmocracy, which utilizes a gamification protocol through a freemium service,” stated A. Robert Sobolick, Executive Vice President of WWMPC.
