Los Angeles, CA, June 08, 2011 –(PR.com)– World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation (World Wide) announced plans to host a series of Twitter conferences to discuss hot-button topics faced in today’s film industry. The first dialogue, slated for Saturday, June 18th, at 1:00 pm. Pacific Time, will discuss the pros and cons of releasing a film for premium home video-on-demand (VOD) purchase while the film is still in theatrical play.
The controversial issue was a major topic among theater owners gathered at the recent CinemaCon in Las Vegas when it became known that four major studios — Fox, Sony, Warner Bros., and Universal — plan to supply product for the new platform, in essence making pictures available to the in-home viewer in half the time. While theater owners fear a decrease in revenue, the studios are anticipating a new opportunity to recoup some of the losses faced by the declining DVD market. These issues, as well other concerns like the added risk of piracy, will be discussed at http://www.twitter.com/wwmpc_ceo using the Twitter hashtag #filmvod. World Wide President and CEO Paul D. Hancock will be joined by a number of industry insiders, which currently include Andy Green, Erik Childress, and Lew O’Neil.
Andy Green is a film producer and co-founder of U.K.-based Distrify – a revolutionary new online method of film distribution through social media and smartphone apps.
Erik Childress is Vice President of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He can also be found on eFilmCritic.com, WGN Radio Chicago with Nick Digilio and Criticwatch Quote Whore Crusader.
Lew O’Neil is a US theatrical distribution executive, formerly Senior Vice-President of Distribution at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and currently a consultant to D-Box Technologies of Canada.
“I look forward to the group’s lively discussion using this innovative social media platform and continuing with other industry-related topics,” Hancock stated.
This social media conference series will be a precursor to planned future podcasts.
