Los Angeles, CA, October 25, 2013 –(PR.com)– World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation has entered into a license agreement with Kino Lorber, Inc. for the feature film APPLAUSE from Koncern Film of Denmark. The agreement allows Kino Lorber the right to distribute the critically-acclaimed film for home video, rental and sell-through, pay TV, cable TV, satellite TV, free TV, hotel/motel viewing, pay-per-view, and new media/digital rights (VOD/SVOD).
“APPLAUSE is the rare film that remains with you long after the first viewing largely due to the stunning, heartbreaking performance of the great Paprika Steen,” says Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber. “I was a fan when I first saw it on the festival circuit and am honored to add this film to the Kino Lorber library.”
Directed by Martin Pieter Zandvliet and starring one of Scandinavia’s foremost actors, Paprika Steen (Love Is All You Need, Keep The Lights On, Adams Apples, The Celebration) in a bravura performance, APPLAUSE enjoyed Oscar-qualifying runs in New York and Los Angeles before opening to a wider national theatrical release. Previously, the film had been showcased at numerous festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Zurich Film Festival, the London International Film Festival, and the Hamptons International Film Festival.
In it, Steen stars opposite Michael Falch and Shanti Roney as a recovering alcoholic stage actress whose struggle to reclaim her role as a mother is complicated by the demons from her past. On stage, Thea plays the binge drinking, ostentatious Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Ironically, her stage character bears an uncanny resemblance to her personal life. As her alcoholism and past regrets hang in the balance, Thea must decide whether to confront her inner demons or to let the show go on.
“We are very happy to have Kino Lorber representing the film for various ancillary windows, as high-caliber foreign language films such as APPLAUSE require special handling in order to maximize sales opportunities, and few do that better than Kino Lorber,” states Paul Hancock, President and CEO of World Wide.
