It is said that the truth can set one free, yet for many, the truth can often be much too painful to reveal, even when they know they must. Whether it’s something small like taking a cookie when nobody’s looking or a truth of a much large scale like those of many political controversies, secrets are a staple of humanity, and while some may find it easy to keep secrets, the costs that come from preserving such secrecy tend to be much greater than the truth could ever be. Such secrets can even be devastating when it comes to those kept from family and friends, a lesson that the characters of today’s film, “Third Law”, have to learn the hard way.
For four people, whose lives are intertwined, there is only one truth that separates them. Finding out what they secretly hide from one another is the only fear they have. For Adam, the only thing he holds dear to his heart is the love for his girlfriend Amy; as he battles through a deep depression. Marko, Adam’s best friend, looks to be accepted into corporate life and, in the process, find his place in society. Carter, a man who wants to be everyone’s friend, is in search of the one woman who can make his life complete, at the expense of everyone around him. Amy, Marko’s co-worker, is under constant pressure to hide her secret ways from Adam and in turn hide her inner most thoughts in both her professional and private life. For each of them, their personal desires are greater than the relationships they hold. In a climactic ending, where all hell breaks loose; their secret lives are unraveled and they are forced to face reality head on. The decisions each of them make directly impacts each others’ lives, resulting in everyone trying to attain what they ultimately desire.
To convey such drama with as much authenticity as possible is no easy task, but fortunately, this film has a cast of actors that is more than capable of living up to the challenge. In the role of Samantha is Christine Aziz, who has made a name for herself with minor roles on such television programs as “Covert Affairs”, “The Firm”, and “12 Monkeys”. Playing Mr. Andrews is Vincent Bellon, an actor/stuntman who is best known for performing in television shows like “Saving Hope” and “Warehouse 13”, as well as films like “The Warriors Maccabees: Fight for the Holy Land”. For the role of Mike, Ryan Kindret delivers a solid performance, and would continue to prove his worth in his most recent role as Kyle in “The Infidelity Monologues”. In addition, on top of his role as writer and director, Naveed also appears on screen as the character of Marko.
The title “Third Law” refers to the law of physics that states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and this film could not be a more accurate reflection of that law. Over the course of the film, viewers will realize just how much even the smallest of secrets can have major consequences, and those curious to know how can find the film here.
